What are the advantages of antique reproduction furniture versus antique furniture?
“A piece of antique furniture is a collectible interior furnishing of considerable age. Often the age, rarity, condition, utility, or other unique features make a piece of furniture desirable as a collectors’ item, and thus termed an antique. The antique furniture pieces reflect the style and features of the time they were made; this can be called the antique’s “period” (Edwardian, Tudor, Colonial, etc.). … Christie’s defines it as being over 100 years old.”

True antique items are marvelous in any respect; vintage is indeed in vogue again in many areas. For example both the vintage fashion and automobile industries have exploded in recent years.
Furniture in particular has always held a certain amount of value and charm by the fact alone that it is old. There is something quite satisfactory to know that you own an item of furniture that has been appreciated and loved by others whilst steadily increasing in value. Furniture which has stood the test of time for 100 years or more gathers a sense of mythical wonder. They are something to be talked about; boasting rights to be proud of.
Sadly genuine antique pieces that are affordable nowadays are a rarity. Such pieces in good condition are often so sought after that they are unobtainable for most peoples budgets. Indeed most of us have to be content to visit these relics in stately homes and palaces or even museums.
Purchasing antique pieces of furniture has always been a risky and tricky business. This is only proving to get harder as items age and become more desirable. Has the furniture been damaged or changed in any way? Sometimes this is not easily spotted. Worst case scenario though has to be is the furniture actually genuine? You don’t want to fork out a small fortune to later find out that it is not as old as the seller is claiming it is, or for example it’s not a genuine Chippendale piece. Of course a lot of these problems can be solved if you are willing to pay for expertise at yet more expense.
