Louis Philippe Bedroom Furniture

26 November 2015

Louis Philippe furniture derives its name from the French monarch of the same name who reigned from 1830 to 1848. During this time the bourgeoisie, or middle classes, became avid furniture buyers and there was a move away from more formal furniture with designs becoming simpler with rounder, softer lines and little ornamentation. Darker woods including mahogany and walnut were the preferred option.

Probably the best known item of Louis Philippe bedroom furniture is the sleigh bed. Both the headboard and footboard feature curvilinear lines reminiscent of a horse drawn sleigh, hence the name.

Originally items of furniture were individual one off pieces but with the dawn of the industrial revolution manufacturers were able to offer entire collections and it was easy to coordinate this look.

Our Louis Philippe bedroom furniture range is extremely popular and suits traditional as well as contemporary homes. This solid mahogany range includes sleigh beds, bedsides, chests of drawers, dressing table and double and triple wardrobes. Each piece is handcrafted from solid mahogany wood and finished with a traditional wax polish to enhance the natural wood. Drawers and cupboard doors are finished with wooden knob handles.

The Louis Philippe triple wardrobe is one of our best sellers offering copious amounts of storage space. The double side of this wardrobe has a hanging rail with shelf above and the single side has a choice of double hanging or shelves. It is cleverly designed and made in sections for easy home assembly making it suitable for most homes. A double version of this wardrobe is also available
