What is a Half Tester Bed?<\/h3>\n

The Half Tester Bed differs from the traditional and more popular Four Poster canopy bed because only the headboard is featured on the canopy. Hence the ‘half’ name. Four Poster Beds have the canopy attached to both the head and the footboard. The bed has posts on each end. This allows for the function of the sleeper to be fully enveloped by a curtain.<\/p>\n

Canopy Beds are traditionally used to help retain heat and maximize privacy. They came into fashion in early Medieval Europe primarily for their functionality rather than their style. Keeping warm and secure was very important at night and\u00a0such beds were commonly a sign of wealth and affluence. Large heavy and highly embroidered curtains adorned both sides.\u00a0Canopy beds make\u00a0wonderful statement pieces of furniture in a modern home. They are often seen as being a more romantic and stylish form of bed. Traditional wooden\u00a0canopy beds\u00a0are often ornately carved and decorative items of furniture though plainer more contemporary styles have become very popular in recent years.<\/p>\n

The show stopping Antique Reproduction Half Tester is very ornate in a gold leaf finish with exquisite hand filigree carved decoration. The posts have stunning pillar detailing. The bed is intentionally over the top in typical French renaissance style. Made from solid high quality mahogany wood. The bed is also available in a more subtle traditional wax finish.<\/p>\n

The other bed we currently have at Lock Stock and Barrel Furniture is slightly more understated. The Hampton Half Tester Bed is an elegant Walnut piece which is part of our large Hampton Walnut Range. The bed is still intricately carved and decorative but slightly less ornate because of the traditional wax coloured wood.<\/p>\n

The bed is handcrafted from solid Mindi wood with Burr Walnut veneers applied by skilled craftsmen. Other items in our Hampton Range<\/a> compliment the bed perfectly.<\/p>\n
