Thought to originate from as early as the Roman period the sleigh bed\u2019s popularity rose during the French Empire period. With its elaborate and distinctive style the bed became a status symbol of well to do Victorians. Sleigh beds were historically constructed from wood. We have carried on this tradition with our range of ethically sourced solid mahogany and burr walnut beds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Style<\/span><\/u><\/h4>\n

The sleigh bed\u2019s distinctive scrolling curved shape looks very elegant and brings a touch of class to any bedroom. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>A real design classic the sleigh bed works equally well in a traditional or contemporary bedroom and remains a firm favourite with many of our customers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our impressive collection offers a choice of styles to fit effortlessly into any bedroom.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Our traditional solid mahogany sleigh beds come with a choice of high or low footboard.\u00a0\u00a0The low footboard version is one of our best sellers and\u00a0is perfect for smaller bedrooms or taller customers! <\/span><\/p>\n

Another option is the rattan sleigh bed which features rattan panels in both the headboard and footboard. The antique white version of this bed is very shabby chic and perfect for your boudoir!<\/span><\/p>\n

Another of our best sellers is the Sleigh Day Bed which features a hideaway second bed (or trundle) making it perfect for a child\u2019s bedroom or guest room. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our most impressive sleigh bed is an antique reproduction of the French Brodsworth bed<\/span>\u00a0inspired by Louis Philippe Lit Bateau. The original bed can be seen at Brodsworth Hall in South Yorkshire. (Our version of the bed\u00a0is pictured above).<\/span><\/p>\n

All of\u00a0our sleigh beds\u00a0are available in waxed mahogany or an antique white paint\u00a0finish. They\u00a0are available in double, king size and super king size. (The Day Bed is only available in 3\u2019 single).<\/span><\/p>\n
